OUR GIVING POLICY

With the support of a caring community, we provide funding to aid in purchasing items to assist in daily living - particularly items related to technology, transportation and mobility. We provide help when no other funding source is available, or when other funding sources are not adequate to cover the costs of the needed assistive technology or access modifications. We do NOT pay individuals directly. Payment goes to reliable vendors.

MO Better primarily assists the following

  • Missouri adults and children living with a diagnosed physical disability/disorder or a permanent physical impairment due accidents or incidents. 

Applicants may have a diagnosed physical disability/impairment including (but not limited to)

  • Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular disease-causing disability

  • Spinal muscular atrophy

  • Friedrich’s Ataxia

  • ALS, all other neuropathies other neuropathies causing disabilities

  • Cerebral palsy

  • Multiple sclerosis

  • Stroke

  • Charcot-Marie Tooth

  • Post-polio

  • Guillain-Barre´

  • Spinal Cord Injury (caused by traumatic injury or medical cause)

  • Spina Bifida

  • Limb loss

  • Dystonia

  • Transverse Myelitis (if paralysis is still experienced

Eligible Items/Equipment

Any piece of equipment that allows an applicant to be active and participate in a will be considered including (but not limited to):

  • Assistive Technology Equipment

  • Communications devices /speech recognition software

  • Evaluation and training costs for

  • Adaptive vehicle modifications including wheelchair lifts, driving controls

  • Stair lifts

  • Smart Home devices/environmental controls

  • Speech recognition software

  • Portable Ramps

  • Lumber/materials/labor costs for minor home modifications including building ramps, widening doors, bathroom modifications, etc.

  • Short-term van rentals

 

NOTE: Ineligible Items/Equipment:  We will not consider applications for:

  • Purchase of vans

  • Equipment used in therapy

  • Medical items

  • Medical supplies
